Lakers News: Darvin Ham Reveals Plan For Starting Lineup Moving Forward
After a series of shuffled lineups throughout the season, the Los Angeles Lakers have officially committed to a new starting five, according to head coach Darvin Ham.
The lineup features Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell in the backcourt, and LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, and Anthony Davis in the frontcourt. With the group finding some success (3-0 thus far), Ham’s confidence was clear when asked about it, per Mike Trudell of Lakers.com:
Similar, but contrary to the team’s starting lineup during last season’s playoff run, Rui Hachimura is starting as opposed to Jarred Vanderbilt. While Vanderbilt has only played a few games at full strength this season, Hachimura arguably fits better with the starting group given his offensive upside.
While it’s hard to maintain the same starting group for a while, especially when you have a deep team and other lineup variations that have found success, I think it’s reasonable to assume that Ham continues rolling with this group into the future.
Based on the matchup, it’s possible Vando draws starts over Hachimura, but it’s clear that in his starting role thus far, Rui has performed well, and his versatility as a scorer and size on defense are both huge additions to a Lakers team that has seemingly struggled to find a two-way 5th starter.
