The Philadelphia Eagles and Nick Sirianni should look for a new beginning.
The 2023 NFL season ended bitterly for the Philadelphia Eagles and head coach Nick Sirianni, and I believe that both parties desperately need a divorce. With a few exceptions, I believe that almost every other NFL team would accept an 11-6 regular-season record and a postseason berth. But the Eagles’ sharp collapse in 2023 raises a lot of concerns about the coaching staff’s sustainability.
While some may have thought the Eagles would not be as good, I doubt anybody could have guessed how their season turned out. The Eagles lost both Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon to head coaching roles in 2023. When the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2022, they had a 10-1 start and appeared to be going back to their former ways.
But the team’s demise came as a real blow when they dropped six of their final seven games. By the end of the season, the Eagles were performing like a squad capable of winning five games. They were forced to fly for this year’s NFL playoffs’ first round after losing their hold on the NFC East championship. Even though the Eagles had a stronger roster than the Tampa Bay Bucs, they were outclassed by…
Mayfield Baker.
That, in my opinion, would be sufficient to convince Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and owner Jeff Lurie that they must change course. Nick Sirianni believed that he was occasionally behaving a little conceited and egotistical, and his demeanor did not appear to connect with many people in the NFL. It also raises the question of whether Sirianni’s hiring as head coach had little bearing on the Eagles’ success, given how they rebounded from losing their two coordinators this season.
I believe that starting over is the best course of action for both. To be honest, I don’t think the players of the Eagles would object to a new head coach. The head coach bears the final say on the matter because Philly is simply too good to have watched their season finish the way it did.
