Despite winning the Juan Soto sweepstakes, the New York Mets had obvious roster gaps that needed to be filled. One of them was the bullpen, which New York fixed by adding a former star pitcher for the Atlanta Braves.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, left-hander AJ Minter has agreed to a two-year, $22 million contract with the Mets, subject to a physical. After the first year, Minter will have the option to opt out.
Despite battling hip issues during 2024, the lefty made 39 appearances. Minter nonetheless recorded a stellar 2.62 ERA and 35/11 K/BB ratio while on the mound. Minter has a 3.28 ERA and a 422/123 K/BB ratio during his eight years with the Braves.
He had what may have been his greatest season to date not so long ago. Minter recorded a career-high 94 strikeouts and 15 walks in 2022, along with a career-best 2.06 ERA (for seasons with 30 or more appearances). Minter played in a career-high 75 games during the year that he put on that effort.
