With this loss, the New Orleans Saints could suffer a significant setback. Following his knee injury sustained in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, defensive tackle Malcolm Roach is reportedly considering his options, according to head coach Dennis Allen, who stated on Monday that Roach is currently evaluating his alternatives. It is possible that Roach will suffer an injury that will finish his season, given that there are only five games left on the schedule.
And that would be a blow that would completely break him. Following the achievement of new career highs in tackles (38), assists (25), tackles for loss (3), and passes defensed (3), Roach, who is 25 years old, is scheduled to enter free agency in the spring and is expected to make a significant amount of money.
It is hoped that Roach will be in a more favorable position after receiving a second opinion and conducting additional evaluations. In spite of the fact that he has played the fewest snaps (290) at defensive tackle, he has brought a lot of energy to the rotation and is an aggressive player in the trenches. He is third on the team with 10 tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage, beating out Nathan Shepherd (415), Bryan Brsee, and Khalen Saunders (366).
It is likely that the Saints would either bring up Jack Heflin, who was a standout during the preseason, from their practice squad or look into free agents from outside the organization in order to strengthen the position group if he is going to be injured. Regardless of injuries, they have been gashed on the ground throughout the season, and it is possible that they will require additional reinforcements at defensive tackle.
