TampaBay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield, Divorce With His Wife
Inadvertently disclosing free-agency aspirations on hot mic, Baker Mayfield
That will lessen the intrigue surrounding Baker Mayfield’s unrestricted free agency.
Following a brilliant 2023 season in which he led the Buccaneers to the NFC South title and a commanding 32-9 victory over the Eagles in the wild-card stage, Mayfield has shot to prominence as one of the best quarterbacks available on the free-agent market.
In Las Vegas on Wednesday, Mayfield, 28, was a guest on “Up and Adams.” While the cameras were still rolling, he was speaking with 49ers Hall of Famer Steve Young.
The video, which JC Cornell of The Draft Network uploaded on X, seems to show Mayfield telling Young that he intends to stick with the Buccaneers.
Mayfield tells Young he is excited about “getting some pieces back,” which might be interpreted as a dig at standout wide receiver Mike Evans, a free agency.
After that, Young advises Mayfield to “settle in there and create a career,” to which she replies, “absolutely.”

BM comments that he is “getting some (Bucs) pieces back” and adds “yes” to being in a good place and settling in professionally.
Before being moved to San Francisco, three-time Super Bowl champion Young spent two seasons in Tampa Bay. He concludes the talk by saying that’s where “he started.”
Rob Gronkowski, a former tight end for the Patriots and Buccaneers, commiserates with host Kay Adams about the volume of texts he received during his interview, as Young and Mayfield’s chat is taking place in the background.
Considering his success in Tampa Bay following the end of his NFL career, Mayfield was the favorite to return there.
After being cut by the Panthers the previous season, Mayfield joined the Rams, who were beset by injuries, and ended the season with a five-game winning streak.
Before choosing to draft Liam Coen, who had been the offensive coordinator for the Rams under Mayfield, the Buccaneers apparently conferred with Mayfield over offensive coordinator prospects.
Mayfield told the AP earlier this week, “I enjoy it there.” It goes without saying that you will need to weigh your options and decide which course of action is best for us going forward. However, they welcomed Emily and me as well as the entire city and let me come in and be myself. That’s something for which we should be genuinely thankful. Additionally, we’re
Mayfield took over for the retiring Tom Brady in the Buccaneers offense, throwing for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
A very quiet class of free agents includes three more famous quarterbacks: Ryan Tannehill, Gardner Minshew, and Kirk Cousins.
