Just two weeks before Christmas, former Rangers defender Frank de Boer was fired as manager of Al-Jazira, a UAE Pro League team.

This is De Boer’s first managerial position following his 18-month stint with Atalanta United. The Dutchman has previously held managerial positions at Ajax, Inter Milan, and the notorious Crystal Palace.
Frank de Boer, who played left and center back for Rangers, was briefly involved in Middle Eastern football, specifically with Al-Rayyan and Al-Shamal in Qatar.
A two-term stay in Glasgow
With the hope of achieving the kind of success his brother Ronald did at Ajax and Barcelona, Frank de Boer made a big splash when he arrived in Glasgow.
Even though the Dutch pair played on different sides of the field, they had a fantastic partnership throughout their careers, starting in Amsterdam.
Together with players like Edwin van der Sar, Edgar Davids, Marc Overmars, Patrick Kluivert, and others, they were a part of the illustrious 1995 Ajax team that won the Champions League. The two enjoyed eight trophy-filled seasons of playing together in the Netherlands.
Ronald de Boer then joined Barcelona in 1999 and moved to Rangers the following year.
Frank would leave Spain after only six miserable months at Galatasaray and live there for four years before moving to Glasgow to live with his twin.
An ex-Barcelona hero played for free at Rangers
Rangers, who signed him in January 2004, finished second in the SPL that season without winning a single trophy. At the conclusion of the season, the De Boer brothers accepted a farewell payment from Qatar.
Frank de Boer, whose most memorable Rangers moment was a late header against Aberdeen, even failed to convert the game-winning penalty in a League Cup shootout against Hibs.
De Boer’s agent, Guido Albers, has previously stated that the defender did not receive a salary during his brief tenure in Glasgow, despite the fact that he was a losing player.
In 2022, Van Bronckhorst not only won the Scottish Cup for the Ibrox club, but he also guided them to the Europa League Final.
One of the most well-liked Rangers forwards of the modern era, Michael Mols, made an emotional return to the team in the club’s victory over Dundee this past weekend after undergoing brain tumor surgery.
