The Players Championship Roster for Next Week does not include Tiger Woods.
matchsportnews.com has not played since his first tournament of the season was canceled three weeks ago due to illness, despite having stated his intention to play in PGA Tour events once a month this year.
March 9, Miami Tiger Woods was not included on the final roster that was announced yesterday, so he will not be competing in the 50th Players Championship next week.
Although Woods declared he would play on the PGA Tour on a monthly basis this year, he has not participated in the competition since his first appearance of the season three weeks ago, which ended early due to illness.
Before the Masters, which is scheduled for April 11–14, the first major tournament of the season, the golfer, who has won 15 major titles, will have three more opportunities to play competitively.
If Woods is looking for another competition before the Masters, he might think about taking part in the Texas Children’s Houston Open (March 28–31), the Valero Texas Open (April 4–7), or the Valspar Championship (March 21–24) in Palm Harbor, Florida.
In 2018, Woods competed in the Valspar Championship once and tied for second place. He has not yet participated in the Houston Open, but he placed third in the 1996 Texas Open.
Three weeks ago at Riviera, the 48-year-old golfer made his eagerly awaited comeback to the game. However, he had back spasms in the opening round and had to withdraw from the second round on the seventh hole due to flu-like symptoms.
This was Woods’ first PGA Tour event since the Masters in April of last year, when he withdrew with plantar fasciitis before completing the third round.
After having ankle surgery in April, Woods rested most of the year before returning to the professional ranks at an unofficial PGA Tour event at the end of November.
In the 144-player field for the Players Championship, which is set for March 14–17 at TPC Sawgrass, nine previous winners, including reigning champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler, will be competing. – Reuters
