Rams coach Sean McVay confirms arrest of starting CB Derion Kendrick
On Monday afternoon, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay made the announcement regarding the arrest of starting cornerback Derion Kendrick.
After Kendrick was arrested on Monday at 2:14 a.m. PT on a felony charge of carrying a concealed firearm, according to a TMZ story, McVay spoke with reporters about the incident during his news conference on Monday. The claim that made use of police data stated that Kendrick was allegedly pulled over by officials in Los Angeles for an alleged traffic offence.
Police said they found a pistol in his car, according to the story. According to the article, Kendrick was still being held by police as of Monday afternoon. Not much was initially made public about the search, the arrest, or the alleged firearm. The arrest took place in the hours after the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
McCay said on Monday, “I’m just going to kind of leave it at that until I have all the right facts,” after the arrest was confirmed, according to the Orange County Register. “Aside from the fact that I know he was arrested early this morning, I don’t think it would be acceptable for me to talk on topics about which I don’t have the whole context.”
Kendrick, 23, is a second-year veteran with the Rams. He has started every game this season and six of his 15 appearances as a rookie after being chosen by the Rams in the sixth round of the 2022 draft out of Georgia.
Before relocating to Georgia, Kendrick played for three seasons at Clemson. In Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 2021, he was allegedly charged with a misdemeanour of carrying a handgun without authority.
In 21 NFL games, Kendrick has accumulated 68 tackles and seven passes defensed. He has yet to intercept a pass in his career. His playing status in the future remains uncertain. The 3-3 Rams take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
