Undoubtedly, having open heart surgery is a frightening experience, but one Detroit Lions fan claims that Dan Campbell’s encouragement helped a bit.
Instagram user dominatorventi shared a video message he got from Campbell, expressing gratitude to his wife for facilitating communication with the Lions. It’s a personal and sincere message rather than just a generic “Hey, I hope you feel better” kind of thing. It’s obvious Campbell gave it some thought.
Here it is in its entirety:
“Hi, Dominic. Since I know you’re a big fan, this is Dan Campbell, head coach of your Detroit Lions. Hey, dude, I just wanted to say hi and hope your surgical recuperation goes really well. Although it sounds like a serious deal, your wife, Grace, noted that you handled it with humor and ease. Let’s face it, we need more individuals who can put things in perspective like you. In any case, thank you, and know that your lovely wife and I are praying for you both from a distance. That was—let’s face it, she kind of pulled this off. As a devoted Lions supporter, I appreciate you being here and wish you the best. God be praised.
Because of the NFC North rivalry, Dominic jokingly referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York, as “enemy territory” when he posted a message about his open heart surgery on November 23.
“After I was prepared to go through the Mayo Clinic doors the morning of my surgery, I received a pep talk from a coach that I hadn’t received in decades. Dan, many thanks for that. It really put me in a good frame of mind,” he wrote.
