A Sky Sports reporter calls the Everton loss over Tottenham a “lucky” decision following a “very harsh” ruling.

“Extremely severe” was the ruling that disallowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur.

Journalist Joe Shread of Sky Sports claims that Andre Gomes’ foul during the build-up resulted in the goal being disallowed.

On Saturday, December 23, Tottenham defeated the opposition 2-1 in the Premier League. Goals came from Richarlison and Son Heung-min for the home team and Gomes for the away team.

After witnessing his team barely hold onto a victory over Everton, Ange Postecoglou tactfully responded by claiming that Tottenham had put up a “different kind of performance.”To put it more bluntly, they were fortunate,” Shread said in an article for Sky Sports.

“Everton was the more dangerous team in the first half, but they were behind 2-0, and referee Stuart Attwell made a very harsh call in advising Michael Oliver, the VAR, to deny Calvert-Lewin’s goal.”

    Adifficult weekend

Six minutes into the second half, with his team trailing 2-0, Calvert-Lewin believed he had started the comeback. That made the incident at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium crucial.

However, the referees had other ideas, as the Toffees weren’t able to score until the 82nd minute. By then, the hosts had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in just eighteen minutes, so it was too late to salvage a point.

They did, however, have numerous outstanding opportunities to secure a memorable draw away from home, but they were left empty-handed in North London.

The Merseyside team is now just four points outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League standings after the close loss.

The bottom three clubs all had successful weekends, starting with Sheffield United’s draw with Aston Villa on Friday, December 22. It was not a nice weekend for the Toffees.

On Saturday, Luton Town defeated Newcastle United 1-0 at home to earn all three points, while Burnley won 2-0 away from Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton FC - Premier League

Given their consistently improving play, Everton’s opponents are beginning to take them more seriously these days.

They have united to create a tough, diligent team that any Premier League team would be happy to play; they are no longer a weak, insecure bunch of people.

While Burnley, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest were unlucky not to lose to Sean Dyche’s team in their own stadium, Tottenham Hotspur were fortunate to prevail.

Their four-game winning streak has allowed them to go ahead of Everton and into a safe haven, and many of their key players were unavoidably crucial to that achievement.

But interest in their main man will grow along with their stature.

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton FC - Premier League

One such player is Jarrad Branthwaite, a 21-year-old who has already drawn interest from several Premier League teams due to his impressive transition to the top level in England.

As for the £35k-a-week monster, well, former Toffees striker and beIN presenter Andy Grey has attempted to weigh in, answering Richard Keys’ query with, “Would you sell him?”

Reluctantly, sure, stated the Scotsman (beIN Sports, 23/12/2023, 14:41 pm). reluctantly. At Everton, I don’t think we’re in a position to reject a bid of around £85 million, particularly because we have solid options in Ben Godfrey, Michael Keane, and James Tarkowski.

At this point, it would be quite tough for Everton to decline. It would probably have to be accepted if the sum was around £85 million. You are unable to refuse that.

What role does Jarrad Branthwaite play for Everton?

It is hardly surprising that the England U21 international’s recent performances go a long way towards justifying the £100 million price tag that was purportedly placed on him.

After all, in a position where most players don’t reach their prime until much later in their careers, he is already displaying extraordinary maturity at the highest level.

Given that his 6-foot-4 lightning-quick stature is encased in know-how, it is a frightening prospect that he is already so dominant and positionally intelligent.

Because of his flawless physical attributes as a centre defender, it shouldn’t have surprised journalist Lewis Steele to refer to him as a “brick wall” earlier in the season.

That is also undoubtedly supported by Sofascore, given that he is averaging 1.7 interceptions, 2.1 tackles, 4.8 clearances, and 7.1 ball recoveries per game in the league.

Selling him would undoubtedly provide the financial boost the team needs to get back on track, but Dyche cannot ignore how important he is to the team right now.
