After a monster game, Lions rookie running back RB calls out the NFL for a random drug test.
Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs received an early Christmas gift from the NFL: a random drug test, following his spectacular performance that helped the Detroit Lions defeat the Minnesota Vikings and win their first division title in thirty years.
On December 24, Gibbs led his squad to a 30-24 victory that guaranteed the Lions the NFC North title. Gibbs also scored twice during the game. Following the game, Gibbs posted a picture of a required drug test on social media, along with a trolling remark addressed to the league.
“Am I done cooking?” In his Instagram story, Gibbs wrote:.
A historic season for a rookie in the Lions
Against the Vikings, Gibbs ran 15 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns, adding 20 yards on catches. It was a solid all-around performance. The first-round selection has now scored a touchdown in three straight games, which has assisted the Lions in winning their last two games.
They were able to guarantee at least one home playoff game and their first division title since 1993 with their victory on Saturday.
In addition to 51 catches for 316 yards and a receiving touchdown, the rookie now has 872 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. With two games remaining, Gibbs has surpassed Mel Farr for the fifth-most scrimmage yards for a rookie, as reported by WXYZ, capping an incredible season for the Lions.
Along with Barry Sanders (1989) and Billy Sims (1980), he is the third rookie in franchise history to record 1,000+ scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns in a season. “This season, he has also recorded 13 games with 50+ yards, which ties him for third most by a rookie running back in team history.”
Dan Campbell supports Rookie.
The choice of the Lions to choose Gibbs with the No. 12 overall pick in the draft was initially met with criticism, as some noted that the team’s needs were greater on defense and that it is becoming less common to use top first picks on running backs. The Lions’ choice to choose tight end Sam LaPorta early in the second round was met with criticism as well.
Following a 42-17 victory over the Denver Broncos on December 16 with two touchdowns from Gibbs and three more from LaPorta, Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed gratitude to Detroit’s general manager for selecting the two players in the draft.
According to the Detroit News, Campbell stated, “I’m simply going to bring it back to Brad Holmes; that’s a hell of a work by him, once again.” “I’m delighted we got those two picks; they seem like they’re OK, but I took a lot of heat for them.”
LaPorta is currently experiencing his own breakthrough year. He has the fourth-highest receiving yards of any rookie and the most for a rookie tight end, with 74 receptions for 776 yards and nine touchdowns.
LaPorta and Gibbs were praised by Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who said that they were “two of the best rookies I’ve ever been around.”
“Everything, including how they rehearse and perform like pros, how they manage their mental health, and what they do for us every Sunday,. They’re the best there is,” Goff remarked.
