Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town expressed optimism that Wes Burns’ shoulder injury would not necessitate surgery based on reports from a doctor.
Burns, an Ipswich Town winger who shone out wide during their promotion-winning campaign, has been a constant on the right flank this season, holding down the starting position in the Championship. But after sustaining a shoulder injury while serving abroad, he needs a break.
There were worries that the 28-year-old would need surgery to fix the problem after being substituted early in a Wales match.
But according to a recent update from Ipswich Town manager McKenna, an operation does not appear to be required. After the team’s victory over Bristol City in midweek, the manager told the East Anglian Daily Times that a specialist’s opinion suggested surgery wasn’t necessary.
While he’s not there
Ipswich Town would suffer from Burns’ absence, but if he needed surgery, he would have had to miss more time. That’s why the Tractor Boys will find solace in this most recent expert’s decision.
Fortunately, McKenna will have some good choices to choose from while he is not there. Omari Hutchinson, on loan from Chelsea, and Marcus Harness provide more alternatives for the right flank, where Kayden Jackson started last night’s victory over Bristol City.
Even in situations where a vital player like Burns is forced to the sidelines, McKenna can still field quality players because of the depth in his ranks. When the Welshman returns to fitness, it will be hoped that one of the three right-sided possibilities can fill in for him and give him something to prove.
