Mixed emotions at the Sky Blues! Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has spoken about the highs and lows of welcoming his international players back to the club following the latest break.
“It’s always a proud moment to see our lads represent their countries,” Lampard said on Friday at the Ryton training ground. “But as a manager, you do worry — about fatigue, knocks, and how quickly they can get back into rhythm.”
Several key Sky Blues featured for their national teams, including Ben Sheaf for England’s U21s and Haji Wright for the United States. Lampard praised their performances but admitted that managing their return to club action requires balance.
“Some come back full of confidence and energy, others need a day or two to find their sharpness again,” he explained. “It’s about managing that carefully so the whole squad benefits.”
After an inconsistent run in the Championship, Lampard sees the upcoming clash with Middlesbrough as a chance to build momentum.
“The Championship is a relentless league,” he said. “Now it’s about consistency — staying focused, keeping our standards high, and using this period to push on.”
When asked about his team selection, Lampard hinted that late fitness checks will determine the final lineup. “We’ll assess everyone closely,” he noted. “The important thing is that the lads are hungry, motivated, and ready to give everything for the badge.”
💪💙 The Sky Blues aim to channel the energy of their returning internationals — and get back on the path to victory this weekend! .
