Due to problems with Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, Newcastle United has suffered yet another setback in terms of injuries.
Murphy and Isak were both substituted for Newcastle during the team’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night. Eddie Howe, the head coach of the Magpies, stated that Murphy had dislocated his shoulder and Isak had a groin injury after the game.
Elliott Anderson, a 20-year-old midfielder, was not included in the matchday roster for the Dortmund game. Howe later disclosed that Anderson has been experiencing back pain.
Howe said, “Well, it appears that he has a back issue, so he’s probably going to be absent for a few weeks.”
Due to his injury, Anderson is probably going to miss the following games: the away leg against Dortmund and the meetings against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester United, Arsenal, and AFC Bournemouth. And with Harvey Barnes and Sven Botman down, worries about Isak and Murphy, Newcastle’s roster is threadbare ahead of a busy stretch of games.
“It [looks really stretched],” the manager of The Magpies said. It’s an odd one because, when you consider Elliott’s and Murph’s injuries, they’re quite tough to comprehend.
“You can’t sit here and overanalyze things; they happen, and all you can do is adjust. It’s a matter of right, therefore proceed.
“We’ll regroup the players; we have a big game against Wolves coming up, and we’re still in a great spot in both the Premier League and the Champions League.” We need to unite the team right now because we’ve had a great start and each member of the squad is really crucial.
Joe Willock made his comeback from injury during the game on Wednesday night, following a five-month absence. However, Howe later disclosed that the 24-year-old’s appearance in the last moments was not intended.
Howe told The Gazette, “[Willock] was forced on by his injuries.” “Alex’s early withdrawal left us with one change.
“We attempted to manage the game load for some of our substitutes by making [two double substitutions].” We sought to control Joelinton as he recently returned from injury, which is why we made the adjustment.
