Sean McDermott, head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and his spouse signed a divorce decree.
In an effort to overtake the Kansas City Chiefs atop the AFC, the Buffalo Bills have made a few coaching staff changes. The appointment of Bobby Babich as defensive coordinator and the removal of offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s interim tag were two of the staff adjustments made by Bills head coach Sean McDermott.
Brady has now had an opportunity to imprint his mark on the other members of the offensive staff.
Buffalo extended that on Monday by appointing DJ Mangas as an offensive quality control coach on a permanent basis.
Mangas was signed by the Bills for the next season after joining them in a similar capacity in the midst of the 2023 campaign. He was the tight ends coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Buffalo for the first part of 2023.
Mangas is in his second season in the NFL; his first came in 2020 as Brady’s assistant with the Carolina Panthers.
However, that wasn’t his first encounter with Brady. Together, the two have a lengthy history. After graduation in 2014, they worked together as position coaches, having been teammates at William & Mary.
Mangas remained in the area, moving up from running backs coach to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2017 and 2018 seasons when Brady left for Penn State.
He reconnected with Brady in 2019 at Louisiana State University. The offense, led by quarterback Joe Burrow and receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, propelled the Tigers to a national championship.
After his year at Carolina, Mangas came back to LSU to take on the role of passing-game coordinator. However, he left to work as a defensive analyst for UCF one year later.
