Cancer Takes the Life of 20-Year-Old Phillies Pitcher Corey Phelan.
In any event, this is terrible news, but learning that the player is only 20 years old is really upsetting. All you want to do is surround the people who are hurting with as much love as you can.
The Philadelphia Phillies organization lost minor league pitcher Corey Phelan, age 20. Phelan, a 2020 non-drafted free agency signee, learned of his non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in April of this year.
The Phillies director of player development, Preston Mattingly, released a statement saying, “The Phillies family is profoundly grieved by the unfortunate demise of Corey Phelan.” “Corey’s altruism and uplifting demeanor had an impact on everyone in his vicinity. Even though he had a great passion for baseball, his love for his family and his unwavering faith came first. We offer our sincere sympathies to his family, as well as to the teammates and staff that stood by his side and supported him emotionally during his valiant fight with cancer.
“Corey is a unique individual who always will be. Everyone who came into contact with him treasured the exchange, and his smile brightened the entire room. His legacy will endure, particularly thanks to the Phillies organization.
Our sincere sympathies are sent to Phelan’s loved ones, friends, teammates, and family.
