tense conclusion Of all the players on the Las Vegas Raiders roster, Michael Mayer may have the most promise.
The Las Vegas Raiders selected Mayer in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and they signed him to a four-year, $9.3 million contract with high expectations.
Darren Waller, the former Raiders Pro Bowl tight end, was projected to be replaced by Mayer, one of the best tight end prospects in the draft.
With just one reception in his first four games, the rookie’s debut season got off to a rough start.
When Mayer recorded 39 yards on only two receptions in the Raiders’ Week 5 triumph, something finally seemed to click. The next week, Las Vegas targeted him six times, going back to the Notre Dame product. He responded to the challenge, gaining a total of 75 yards in the victory against the New England Patriots.
In the Raiders’ Week 10 victory over the New York Jets, Mayer scored his first touchdown of the season after remaining silent for the next four games. In Week 15, when the Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Los Angeles Chargers with a franchise-high 63 points, he added one more touchdown in his final game of the season.

The Raiders had anticipated that by selecting Mayer with their second-round pick, they would have acquired a reliable tight end who could also be a receiving threat when necessary. The young tight end has a bright future ahead of him, and Raider Nation should be thrilled to see what he produces over the next several years.
