Entering his sixth season in the NFL, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is a contentious figure even beyond the fan base.
After suffering an ACL tear and having a troubled career since being selected sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, many doubts exist about Jones’ ability to play beyond the 2024 season.
But in the first set of quarterback power rankings released by Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, things got a little out of hand. Jones was obscenely ranked as the 32nd quarterback in the NFL.
The ball-security problems that plagued the Giants’ rehabilitation investment apparently made a comeback behind a porous line in 2023. Maybe Malik Nabers can turn things around for him.
It’s one thing to doubt Jones’s ability as a starter. At this stage of his career, there are undoubtedly legitimate concerns, particularly regarding ball security.
However, it appears that Jones’ ranking behind four rookies, Bryce Young, and Jacoby Brissett, is a bit of an overreaction to the Giants’ complete collapse in 2023.
Two seasons prior, Jones added 120 carries for 708 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while completing 67.2% of his throws for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions,. Although they are not exceptional, those are not the NFL’s No. 32 quarterback.
Even though Jones is far from flawless as a quarterback and might not even be with the Giants after the 2024 season, it is still a stretch to rate him as the NFL’s worst starting quarterback.
