In the race for this top-five recruit, the Blue Devils might still be the team to beat. There is a lot of competition for one of the best guards in the class of 2024.
The three teams vying for VJ Edgecombe’s recruit, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Long Island Lutheran High School, are the Baylor Bears, Duke Blue Devils, and Kentucky Wildcats.
Although Edgecombe was previously seen as a Duke tilt, Kentucky has caught up, and Baylor has proven to be a formidable opponent.
On3 recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw recently revealed that Duke is still very much a contender, if not the clear favorite, despite what some may have believed to be a loss of momentum.
Sources claim that Duke has the upper hand in this situation, but Intel indicates that Kentucky has caught up. Additionally, Intel indicates that as we get closer to a potential commitment, Baylor is being watched by Duke and Kentucky.
Chuck Martin’s addition to Kentucky’s staff, according to Shaw, was a major factor in the state catching up in the recruiting department because Edgecombe and Martin were already acquainted.
Interestingly, this interview was posted on the same day that a prediction was made for Duke. Source: Colby Giacubeno, analyst for 247 Sports.
Being an agile scorer who excels in transition and has a strong ability to finish at the rim, Edgecombe is among the class’s greatest guard prospects overall.
Because of Edgecombe’s skill and the perception that he can contribute right away, this recruiting process is very interesting. Additionally, there is excitement among the three participating programs.
In the recruiting world, some believe Baylor is leading, others believe Duke, and some believe Kentucky. This is unique recruiting that has the potential to go in three different directions, so it will be interesting to watch.
