As talented as the Green Bay Packers are, the Kansas City Chiefs are currently the NFL’s team to beat. They are without a doubt the best team in the world right now, having won back-to-back titles for the first time in 20 years.
But if anyone can overthrow them, who is it?
In the playoffs, the windows have all but closed for the 49ers, Bills, and Ravens. Given their history with the Chiefs, the Bengals still have a lot of time, but Joe Burrows’s health is a constant concern. He’s about to reach the most difficult phase of his deal, along with Justin Herbert and a few other young quarterbacks.
Most fans and analysts believe that either a young quarterback in his debut year or a seasoned player like Aaron Rodgers will have to be the answer. That would have to be Brock Purdy (who is currently 0-1 against the Mahomes), Jordan Love, and CJ Stroud if we were to go at the final eight teams from the previous season. The 49ers’ defeat might have been the team’s last chance to win with their present roster. The two remaining teams, who are winning, have the best chance of defeating Mahomes.
Which of the two young, unproven quarterbacks can unseat Mahome as the leader?
What Are the Chances That The Green Bay Packers Will Win The NFL Championship?
The situation with Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers is intriguing. They have their guy, on the one hand. Every significant statistical category saw Jordan Love near the top of the league as his club advanced to the second round of the playoffs. So everything is well, right?
For the Green Bay team, though, things aren’t entirely ideal. Everything is going well offensively. The QB was obtained by them. The OL is strong; the young, talented, and eager group of wide receivers is there, but Aaron Jones remains an issue.
But as far as defense goes, the squad is kind of in a state of flux. Even with his excellent offenses, Matt LaFleur has had trouble finding a reliable DC. Jeff Hafley may or may not be the solution. Nothing is guaranteed because of his lack of NFL experience.
The defense has a dispersed talent pool. Cap space is being occupied by older, more seasoned players; younger, less seasoned players aren’t quite there yet. Having said that, the defense ought to be strong enough to support the club in winning the NFC North.
With a strong enough DC and an excellent off-season, anything is possible, but nothing is certain because cap space is scarce. The fact that Green Bay will have negative cap space come 2024 is not something that fans of the Packers should be cheering about.
That being said, who’s to say the Packers won’t win the Super Bowl in a year or two? Before the 2020 offseason, nobody predicted the Buccaneers would win it all, but they made the correct decisions and heated up in the postseason. That’s also in part how the 2010 Packers won the championship.
How Much of a Chance Do the Houston Texans have to win the Super Bowl?
The Texans currently appear to have a higher chance than the Packers of winning a Super Bowl the following season. In the grand scheme of things, they may have the best chance to upset the Chiefs right now.
In Burrow’s second season, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy, and it came right after Burrow’s dismal rookie campaign. The league would take note if the Texans acquired a formidable weapon similar to how the Bengals acquired Jamarr Chase, whether it be Justin Jefferson or another player.
That would be on top of an already excellent receiving group, which PFF’s separation grade placed at the top of the league.
The Texans are also in far better shape defensively than the Packers are. After years of being at the bottom, Demeco Ryan has taken control of that defense and made a major improvement. Despite missing several games, wide receiver Derek Stingley Jr. had a career year and the team had the best run defense in the league.
The Texans will surely have a great chance of winning it all in New Orleans the following season if they can invest in both sides of the ball with their over $60 million in available funds this off-season.
