In Super Bowl XVIII, Squirek played a crucial role in Los Angeles’ victory. He intercepted Washington quarterback Joe Theismann and dashed to the end zone for a 12-yard pick-6 that put the Raiders ahead 21-3. In the end, Los Angeles prevailed 38–9.

“The Raiders family is mourning the loss of Jack Squirek, who went away on Friday,” the Raiders announced in a statement on Saturday. “Squirek was a key player in one of the greatest plays in professional football history during his four years as a Raider. The Squirek family is currently in our thoughts and hearts, along with the Raider Nation.”

After spending his first four NFL seasons with Los Angeles (1982–85), Squirek appeared in two games for the Miami Dolphins during the 1986 campaign.

During his tenure with the Raiders and Dolphins in 55 regular-season games (eight starts), Squirek tallied three sacks, one interception, and two fumble recoveries. In the 1982 draft, he was selected from Illinois in the second round.
