In jest, the former Liverpool defender suggested that Manchester City would wind up competing in “the National League North.”
In response to allegations on Wednesday suggesting that Everton may lose 12 points for violating financial fair play regulations, Jamie Carragher has attacked the disparity in media attention given to the Premier League struggles of both teams.
According to a story in the Telegraph, an independent committee will make the ultimate decision, but the Premier League has suggested that Sean Dyche’s team receive the harsh punishment. Everton is said to have lost £371.8 million, which is £266.8 million more than anticipated. The Merseyside club has promised to stand by their position and has refuted the accusations made against them.
Regarding City, the team was accused of 115 financial rule violations between 2009 and 2018 in February of this year. Similar to Everton’s case, an impartial panel will decide the conclusion. City disputes the allegations made against them and claims to have a “body of irrefutable evidence” that will demonstrate their innocence.
Carragher asserts that the media has covered the two instances quite differently, with City’s significant case going mostly unnoticed in recent months.
“The Premier League wants Everton to lose 12 points for a single infraction. If the Premier League has their way, Man City will end up in the National League North, the former Liverpool defender stated on X, formerly Twitter.
“It’s amazing how many stories there are about Everton’s predicament, but Man City’s, which has 114 more charges and has been ongoing for much longer, has been relatively quiet.”
