Three former Ohio State football players are on the All-Rookie Team of CBS Sports.
It’s always inspiring to watch former Ohio State football players succeed in the NFL. One of the biggest stories in the NFL this year was rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud guiding the Houston Texans to an AFC South title a year after winning just three games.
This season’s NFL rookie class was impressive, led by Stroud, Puka Nacua, and numerous others. Chris Trapasso, an NFL writer for CBS Sports, unveiled his 2023 NFL All-Rookie Team on Monday.
Three former Buckeyes were on the list: safety Ronnie Hickman of the Browns, right lineman Dawand Jones of the Browns, and quarterback C.J. Stroud of the Texans.
Before missing two weeks due to a concussion, Stroud had an MVP-caliber first season and a well-documented history of success with the Texans.
Jones was selected by Cleveland in the fourth round, and he was thrust into the starting lineup almost immediately when Jack Conklin had a knee injury that ended his season. Before a knee injury in Week 13 tragically terminated his season, he made 11 appearances and showed great improvement, especially as a pass protector.
Hickman was not selected in the 2023 NFL draft; instead, he was signed by the Browns. With three interceptions and a good preseason, he earned a spot on the roster. Hickman took on a more significant role after Grant Delpit was sidelined due to a groin injury. He has since achieved success, most notably when he picked up a pick-six on Thursday Night Football against the Jets in Week 17.
