Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider is bound to be sacked as potential replacement is already known
One of baseball’s biggest disappointments this season has been the Toronto Blue Jays, who come into today’s games fifth in the AL East and below at least eighteen clubs in the MLB standings. There may be upcoming adjustments as a result of it.
During the regular season, Major League Baseball teams don’t hesitate to replace their managers, particularly if a team is playing terribly. With Schneider, Toronto is in that predicament, and things have become worse for the team over time.
- John Schneider record: 153-122 with Toronto Blue Jays
After Charlie Montoyo was sacked by the Blue Jays on July 13, 2022, Schneider, then 44, assumed the position as temporary head coach. At the time, Montoyo was in his fourth season managing Toronto and was headed for a record above.500 for the third straight year.
The Blue Jays finished 46-28 (.622 winning percentage) with Schneider in charge as their interim manager, although they were eliminated from the AL Wild Card Round. Schneider’s Blue Jays finished with an 89-73 record (.549) the next season, and they were once again swept in the AL Wild Card Round’s first round.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Schneider is currently under fire in Toronto. Even if the MLB insider called the Blue Jays manager a “scapegoat” in the event that the team fired him, the team’s poor 2024 performance might force a change.
In the event that Toronto fires Schneider—which could happen this offseason—Don Mattingly is expected to take over as manager of the Blue Jays in 2025.
