Tragedy: Leclerc laments ‘worst problem’ as Ferrari’s slide continues
Charles Leclerc has voiced his belief that Ferrari’s current struggles come down to a fundamental lack of performance. Despite running second in the Constructors’ Championship, the team’s recent upgrades have not only failed to improve their results but have actually taken the car backwards relative to their rivals. Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz, has managed to score more points, including a podium in Austria, but their car has clearly dropped off in pace compared to McLaren, who are challenging Red Bull for second position.
Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari’s latest update – a new floor designed to prevent the SF21 from bouncing – was introduced but with both Leclerc and Sainz struggling to match the pace in qualifying. Sainz will start fourth on the grid with Leclerc behind in sixth. During a media session, Leclerc openly spoke about Ferrari’s issues and stated that the team would focus its development on improving performance. He noted that qualifying had been tough but, importantly, that the team had maximised its weekend despite its limitations in the race.
