Will Novak Djokovic win the Geneva Open and claim his first championship of 2024 with the draw unraveling?

For the first time in his career, Novak Djokovic is currently displaying his traits at the Geneva Open. Entering the 2024 French Open, the Serbian player is still without a championship after struggling with form all season.

Despite being an ATP 250 event, some of the world’s top players are competing in the Geneva Open. Nonetheless, a few unexpected outcomes in the first round have made Novak Djokovic the clear favorite to win his first championship of the year.

Andy Murray and Ben Shelton exit early as Novak Djokovic becomes the favourite to win the Geneva Open

After two rounds, the 2024 Geneva Open has produced some unexpected outcomes. Although Novak Djokovic faced a formidable opponent in the Andy Murray, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Denis Shapovalov, and Casper Ruud draw, things could work out really well for the Serbian.

Andy Murray was the first to lose, when Yannick Hanfmann eliminated the British star in the opening round. Another Brit, Jack Draper, also suffered a first-round defeat, which infuriated some fans even more.

The Americans, Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz, were left stunned after losing three-set thrillers in the second round. Ben Shelton lost 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-2 to Italian sensation Flavio Cobolli, while Fritz fell to fellow American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

The Geneva Open draw has unraveled, with three of the top players already out in the second round. The only player who may possibly stop Novak Djokovic from winning his first title of the year is No. 2 seed Casper Ruud.

Novak Djokovic’s path to glory at the Geneva Open

After a few upsets at the Geneva Open, Novak Djokovic’s draw has eased, giving him the chance to finally hold a prize. Three games remain for the Serbian sensation to capture the title in Geneva on his debut.

In the second round, Djokovic faced Yannick Hanfmann, Murray’s rival. The World No. 1 was behind 3-0 in the second set before rallying for a 6-3, 6-3 victory in straight sets. The Serbian will undoubtedly be pleased with the victory, which has advanced him to the next round, given that he has already had limited match practice.

Before playing an unseeded opponent in the semifinals, Djokovic may play No. 6 seed Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals. If the Norwegian advances past Sebastian Baez on his side of the draw, a matchup with Casper Ruud might be in store for them in the championship round.

Without a doubt, Novak Djokovic is the top contender to win the Geneva Open in 2024. Given that a number of elite players have already been eliminated from the competition, the Serbian is simply too talented to not finish the event. But this season has also served as a harsh reminder of Serbia’s weaknesses on the floor.

Since the beginning of the season, Novak Djokovic has struggled with consistency and form; he would greatly benefit from a title victory in Geneva. Following an early departure from the Italian Open, the Serbian opted to compete in Geneva, and a strong showing there may pay off.

Despite the fact that Djokovic is undoubtedly utilizing this competition to get ready for the French Open in 2024, winning a trophy can only boost his self-esteem as he looks to return to his best for his defence of the Roland Garros championship.
