Callahan of the Bengals on Friday; neither Harbaugh nor Belichick are of interest
According to rumors, Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, is anticipated to interview on Friday for the coaching position with the Tennessee Titans.
After finishing his sixth season with Cincinnati, Callahan is in great demand. The Bengals assistant has also been requested for interviews by the Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Atlanta Falcons, in addition to the Titans.
Callahan, 39, is recognized for creating an offensive scheme that helped quarterback Jake Browning with Joe Burrow’s wrist injury that ended the season. Additionally, during their time together with the Detroit Lions, Callahan worked with Matt Stafford, the current quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams.
Callahan has a strong reputation in the NFL for producing quarterbacks. He is the son of former NFL head coach Bill Callahan. The Titans, who want to use Will Levis as their quarterback moving forward, may find that skill set to be quite important.
The Titans’ decision to interview a coach such as Callahan seems to be in line with the owner’s idea of a cooperative workplace. According to an article in the Athletic, Mike Vrabel’s desire for more control over the roster played a part in his dismissal. Amy Adams Strunk, the owner, wasn’t sure.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that two seasoned coaches—Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick—are apparently not being considered for the Titans position.
Although Harbaugh won his first national championship on Monday, it’s possible that he may think about accepting a position in the NFL. After agreeing to quit his 24-year affiliation with the New England Patriots, Belichick is now looking for work.
The Titans have requested interviews with at least nine coaches: Callahan, the Las Vegas Raiders’ Antonio Pierce, the Detroit Lions’ Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson, the New York Giants’ Mike Kafka, the Baltimore Ravens’ Mike Macdonald, the Dallas Cowboys’ Dan Quinn, the Houston Texans’ Bobby Slowik, and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Brian Johnson.
