Is Sam Hubbard going to be another cap casualty?
There might be some tough choices to make if the Bengals are serious about paying Tee Higgins.
We all know what happens when Joe Burrow wants Tee Higgins back: the Cincinnati Bengals front staff will do everything in its power to make it happen.
However, Higgins’ cap space is limited because to the impending Ja’Marr Chase deal.
This implies that some tough choices will need to be made in order to maintain the dynamic trio’s offensive unit.
Timothy McBride of Gridiron Heroic suggested, among other things, chopping Sam Hubbard, a fan favorite.
The hometown kid on defense sets the tone with his hard work, stuffs the run, applies some pass pressure, and will always be known for his legendary “Rumble in the Jungle,” which turned the Bengals’ Wildcard Round matchup against the Baltimore Ravens into a win last year.
However, Hubbard’s release this year would spare Cincinnati roughly $8 million in 2024 and 2025 while only resulting in a $4 million dead cap charge. Higgins would have plenty of room to negotiate after that.
Myles Murphy, a rookie defensive end, had a strong rookie season, which McBride points to as evidence in favor of Hubbard’s relatively replaceable status.
Should they then proceed?
