Joe Flacco is paid by the Browns the $75,000 bonus that he is not eligible to receive on Sunday.
Joe Flacco inked a lucrative contract with the Browns this season, with the possibility of earning more as long as he and the team performed well. To say he has surpassed expectations would be accurate.
As a result, the Browns have chosen to give Flacco a $75,000 bonus, which he will not be able to collect on Sunday as he is sitting out because the team has already secured a postseason berth.
Field Yates of ESPN reports that a $75,000 incentive is part of Flacco’s contract if he plays at least 50% of the offensive snaps and the Browns win. In order to be fit for the playoffs, Flacco will rest in Sunday’s regular-season finale, but the Browns turned that incentive into a $75,000 roster bonus simply for being a member of the 53-man roster. Therefore, Flacco receives the money whether the Browns win or lose, even though he won’t participate.
The Browns are being kind to a player who has saved their season by getting off the sofa and performing above and beyond everyone’s expectations.
