The head coach of the Browns announced his resignation.
Less than a week after his release, defensive end Sam Kamara has been added by the Cleveland Browns to the practice squad.
The Browns made a number of additional announcements in addition to Kamara’s signing. Additionally, the club cut loose practice squad members Matt Haack, a punter, and Joey Fisher, a guard.
Kamara, a Stony Brook graduate, is in his second season in the NFL. He was first signed by the Chicago Bears in 2021 as an undrafted free agent, and he has made 10 appearances in the league. He has played in just one game this season and has spent the majority of 2022 and 2023 on the Browns practice squad.
Kamara may be called up to the active roster for this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns may rest important starters like Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith in the Week 18 game because they have nothing to lose.
On Monday, January 1, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski stated, “We’re working through all those things.” Of course, we’ll have a plan. We’ll have a strategy going ahead because we want to finish well, but I’ll keep you guys updated as the week progresses.
Browns Handling Defensive Line Injuries
In recent weeks, the Browns defensive line has sustained injuries. Veteran tackle Maurice Hurst was lost by the squad for the season, and Ogbo Okoronkwo is out with a pec injury. Okoronkwo is hopeful that he will be able to participate in the postseason. He hasn’t played in the past two games.
Along with starting middle linebacker Anthony Walker, who is on injured reserve and hopes to return for the postseason, the Browns are also without safety Grant Delpit.
Stefanski responded, “I don’t know,” when questioned about the status of his wounded players. “Obviously, over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll see how all those players grow.” Of course you want all those players back, but we’ll just have to wait and watch how they perform over the course of the next seven to fourteen days.
Garrett has also had injuries, although he hasn’t missed any games. The front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year has been struggling with a shoulder issue. In last week’s game against the New York Jets, he managed to snap his sackless skid. Garrett would be one of the guys the Browns would choose to hold out if they were to rest players against the Bengals.
Nevertheless, in the last week of the season, the sack-hungry All-Pro could be looking for a chance to score a few more points. Garrett’s season total is 14 sacks.
Browns’ Corey Bojorquez is Most Likely to Make a Comeback
Last week’s game saw the Browns without their starting punter and kicker. While Corey Bojorquez is out with a quad ailment, kicker Dustin Hopkins is struggling with a left hamstring problem.
Haack punted against the Jets on Thursday, so it’s probable that Bojorquez is headed back after being waived. Haack averaged a decent 51.7 yards on three punt returns versus New York.
Bojorquez’s return will be welcome for the Browns, but Hopkins is a key component that they are now lacking. In a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers, the franchise acquired Hopkins for merely a seventh-round selection. In more than ten years, he has proven to be the team’s most dependable kicker.
