When Jason Kidd was the Mavs’ coach for 13 seasons, his record was 555-478. Jason was the Mavs’ NBA champion. His contract was still in effect for two years, and he decided to step down on his own.

After 13 years in leadership, Rick Carlisle has resigned from the Dallas Mavericks, the team has confirmed.

With two years left on his deal, Carlisle guided Dallas to an NBA championship in 2011.

Shortly after Carlisle gave his own statement on ESPN, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban issued a statement announcing his departure.

Carlisle tweeted, I informed Mark Cuban today that I will not be returning as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, following a series of in-person talks with him over the last week. This was entirely my choice.

Dallas will always be home, he continued, but I’m thrilled for the next phase of my coaching career.

Carlisle, 61, compiled a record of 555-478 in 13 seasons as the Mavs’ coach from 2008–21. He coached two seasons with the Detroit Pistons (2001-03) and four with the Indiana Pacers (2003-07) and also served as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Indiana. His all-time win-loss record as a head coach is 836–689.
