For the previous three games, the undrafted free agent had been called up from the practice squad. VanSumeren played 62 snaps during that time, all of them on special teams.
After leading the NFL with 26 tackles in the preseason, the 23-year-old played the majority of the season on the practice squad.
The Michigan State graduate will provide depth at linebacker while Nakobe Dean is on injured reserve.
Josiah Scott was added to the practice squad.

After being removed from the active roster on November 28, Scott has returned to the team.
This season, the cornerback appeared in four games. During the victory over the Bills last Sunday, he did not play. Scott played 17 defensive snaps and recorded one solo tackle.
In his debut season with the Eagles, the former fourth-round draft selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars appeared in 29 games and made four starts. Along with eight pass deflections, two interceptions, one sack, and 38 tackles, he was quite active.
Cam Sims joined the squad as a practice member.
Cam Sims, a wide receiver, has been added to the Eagles practice squad.
Sims is a member of the Washington Commanders and has participated in 55 games (17 starts). In his six-year career, he has 57 receptions for 804 yards and three touchdowns.
This season, the Alabama native and undrafted free agent had time on the practice squads of the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders.
Greg Ward was dismissed from the practice squad.
Greg Ward, a wide receiver, was cut by the Eagles from the practice squad.
Ward joined the team in 2017 and helped them win Super Bowl LII while on the practice squad.
