At Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport on Friday morning, a small but fierce group of Cheeseheads boarded planes to support the Green Bay Packers in the Golden State.
At Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium on Saturday night, the pack will play the number-one-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
“We weren’t actually expected to go this far,” Maxwell Jones of Kimberly, Wisconsin, stated on Friday. “It’s simply a big deal.”
Maxwell left late Friday morning for the game in California with his mother, Emily Jones. They’ve attended a good number of Packers games in Green Bay as season ticket holders, but Maxwell has never played on the road before. Maxwell, who turns 14 next week, is getting an early birthday surprise from the trip.
We’re in the end zone since we’re in section 104. We’ll hope for the best and hope that the Packers take some action down there,” Emily Jones said.
Friends from Northern Wisconsin, Kyle Lehman and Brandon Malchek, also left Milwaukee early Friday morning to head to Santa Clara.
“He texted me immediately following Sunday’s game, asking if I wanted to go.Regarding his friend Kyle Lehman, Brandon Malchek said, “And I was like, ‘Uh, sure, I’ll make it work.”
At the airport, several travelers were showing their love for the Green Bay Packers by wearing team attire.
Fans of the Packers were feeling upbeat about the team’s chances of winning despite the difficult task that lay before of them.
