After the Steelers’ wild-card loss to the Bills, coach Mike Tomlin left the platform when asked about his contract.

Following Pittsburgh’s playoff defeat on Monday, Mike Tomlin was not in the mood to discuss his future.

During his post-game news conference, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers declined to discuss his contract. Indeed, as soon as the topic was brought up, he left the podium. When ESPN’s Brooke Pryor said, “Mike, you have a year left on your contract,” Tomlin responded as follows:

That was the end of it. Pryor’s question was not answered, and the press conference ended.

Following Pittsburgh’s 31-17 defeat to the Buffalo Bills in a wild-card game, Tomlin staged his walkout. The Steelers’ season came to an end with the loss, following a 10-7 regular season that saw them secure the final playoff spot in the AFC.

Throughout the season, there has been a great deal of conjecture surrounding Tomlin’s future with the Steelers. There were rumors that Tomlin might not stay on when the Steelers had three weeks left in the regular season and were 7-7 and a long shot to make the playoffs. Following Pittsburgh’s three-game winning streak that qualified them for the playoffs, the talk turned to Tomlin possibly leaving the Steelers.

After speaking with his family, Tomlin intends to take a step back and decide on his future with the Steelers, according to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio last week. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, there are many in the NFL who think Tomlin might be thinking about moving on. The article states that the Steelers desire Tomlin’s return.

The fact that Tomlin is playing in his first-ever final season of a contract only serves to fan the flames of speculation. The ball is supposedly in his court, as the Steelers would prefer to extend him once more.

In the immediate wake of Pittsburgh’s fifth consecutive playoff defeat, he had no interest in talking about his future. The Steelers’ most recent postseason victory came against the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round following the 2016 campaign.

After Bill Belichick left the New England Patriots, Mike Tomlin, the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach, recently completed his 17th season with the Steelers. He will talk to the team about his future at some point during the offseason. However, Monday night wasn’t that point.
