Cleveland Browns make Jeff Driskel decision in regular-season finale
The Cleveland Browns decide on Jeff Driskel in the last game of the regular season. In the last regular-season game against the Cincinnati Bengals, backup quarterback Jeff Driskel will start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Head coach Kevin Stefanski of the Browns has confirmed the selection, stating that Driskel will start as the club prepares for the postseason.
Driskel signed off of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad only last week, and now he is back in the starting lineup.
Driskel’s experience with the offensive system—he previously worked with offensive coordinator Drew Petzing of the Cardinals—and Stefanski’s coaching staff in Cleveland from 2020 to 2022 played a role in the decision to bring him in.
“Jeff’s a guy from Arizona with system experience, which is beneficial,” Stefanski said, providing insight into the considerations that went into choosing Driskel to start at quarterback.
The Browns’ matchup with the Bengals has little bearing on the postseason because they are assured of the little. 5 seed in the AFC going into Week 18. Driskel takes centre stage as the club looks to manage the workload and rest important players in preparation for the postseason.
This season, veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel, who has played for several different clubs, has not appeared in a game. The journeyman, 30, has a 1–9 record as an NFL starter who has played for the Detroit Lions (2019), Denver Broncos (2020), Houston Texans (2021–2022), and Cincinnati Bengals (2018) in the past.
Throughout his career, he has completed 59.2 percent of passes with 2,228 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. With his chance to start for the Browns in Week 18, Driskel adds an intriguing name to the roster of quarterbacks Cleveland has used this season, demonstrating the team’s flexibility in handling quarterback situations.
