According to The Daily Telegraph, Premier League executives have requested that an impartial panel apply the harsh penalty, which would represent the biggest point deduction in the competition’s history.
Everton would be at the bottom of the league standings this season with minus-five points after losing 12 games.
After dropping six of their opening nine games, Sean Dyche’s team is currently sitting in 16th place with seven points.
Everton was referred to the commission by the Premier League in March due to a purported violation of its sustainability and profitability policies over a period that concluded with the 2021โ2022 season.
Premier League teams risk sanctions if they lose more than ยฃ105 million ($127 million) in three years.
“The club strongly contests the allegation of non-compliance and together with its independent team of experts is entirely confident that it remains compliant with all financial rules and regulations,” Everton stated in a statement released on the day after news of the referral was confirmed.
“Everton is ready to give the commission a forceful defense of its stance. The club has deliberately opted to always behave in the best interest of good faith and has for many years given the Premier League information in an open and transparent manner.
For the past five years, Everton has lost money each yearโmore than ยฃ430 million in total.
American private investment firm 777 Partners is attempting to acquire the club. The company refuted a report in the New York Times last week that claimed the deal had stopped due to noncompliance with documents required by the Financial Conduct Authority.
